3 Ways To Make Healthy Turkey Kabobs

In general, when we get to enjoy some delicious skewers, we think of pork, beef, veal or chicken meat. However, you can also make some delicious turkey skewers. The great advantage of these is that, being white meat, as they are cooked they can be very healthy. In fact, turkey meat provides about 7 grams more protein than cooked ham.

Crispy turkey skewers

Ingredients (for 2 people)

  • 2 tablespoons of honey (50 grams)
  • Coarse sea salt (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons of walnuts (30 grams)
  • 2 or 3 turkey breast fillets (about 300 grams)
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce (45 milliliters)
  • ⅓ cup of sesame seeds (50 grams)
  • 3 tablespoons of peeled almonds (45 grams)
  • Optional: 1 glass of red wine (150 milliliters)

Preparation

  1. First, we crush the walnuts and almonds. They do not need to remain as fine powder, there may be pieces without crushing this will give the skewers a crisp touch .
  2. Then, in a bowl, mix the walnuts and crushed almonds with the sesame seeds. We booked.
  3. Next we clean the turkey and cut it into medium or small cubes. It could also be cut into thin strips to make the skewer appear more filled: everything will depend on the presentation we want to give it.
  4. In a container we add 3-4 tablespoons of soy sauce and honey. We mix with a spoon.
  5. Then we marinate the meat with honey and soy sauce overnight in the refrigerator. We save some of this mixture for later. Optionally we can add a stream of red wine to this mixture.
  6. Now we place the dice of turkey meat on some wooden sticks and cook them on the grill in a pan or in the oven. In case of opting for the second alternative, we must preheat the oven in advance to 180º C.
  7. Once the meat is ready, we extract the skewers for a moment, spread them generously with the honey and soy sauce mixture and then we pass them through the seed mixture.
  8. Finally, we return the skewers to the oven for another 2 or 3 minutes and that’s it! We can now serve our crispy turkey skewers.

Scented turkey skewers

Ingredients (for 4 people)

  • 5 or 6 turkey breast fillets (about 500 grams)
  • The juice of 4 lemons
  • ¼ glass of white wine (50 ml).
  • Seasonings: rosemary, salt and three peppers

Preparation

  1. Squeeze the lemons to extract the juice and reserve.
  2. In a bowl, mix the lemon juice, white wine and seasonings.
  3. We clean and cut the turkey breast fillets into strips of medium thickness.
  4. Add the mixture of lemon juice and white wine to the meat and let it marinate for a couple of hours.
  5. We preheat the oven to 180 ºC.
  6. Once the two hours have elapsed, we place the meat on toothpicks and put it in the oven for 20 minutes.
  7. Before serving, we add another little white wine and rosemary.

Sweet turkey skewers

Ingredients (for 4 people)

  • ½ glass of red wine (100 ml)
  • Fresh bay leaves
  • 3 sugar or 2 honey (45 or 50 g)
  • 4 or 5 medium carrots
  • 5 or 6 turkey breast fillets (about 500 g)
  • Optional: 1 small onion (30 g)

Preparation

  1. To start we clean, peel and cut the carrot into slices. The thickness should not be more than 1 centimeter.
  2. We put a pot with plenty of water to boil and, before it reaches its boiling point, we add the carrots to soften them.
  3. Once we have the soft carrots, drain the hot water.
  4. Afterwards, we process the carrots in the blender with a little cold water to obtain a juice. We booked.
  5. Then we clean the turkey meat and cut into small cubes.
  6. Next, to marinate the meat we will place the dice in a container with the carrot juice, the red wine and the sugar. We also add some bay leaves.
  7. Let it marinate for at least a couple of hours, although the ideal is to let the meat marinate overnight.
  8. The next morning, we will place the turkey meat on the chopsticks and cook them on the grill.
  9. Finally, before serving we can add another little red wine to hydrate the meat.

Turkey skewers can be served with all kinds of garnishes. However, it is convenient to combine them with foods that can enhance their flavor, in order to enjoy a truly exquisite meal. For example, sweet skewers can be enjoyed with a delicious mashed sweet potato or sweet potato.
